I and my family were shocked when my grandfather passed away and it wasn't just because I was sad, but because it was my first-time real interaction with death. Being the youngest kid, my mom and dad avoided taking me to funerals as sometimes it can switch how a child thinks, so I never attended any funerals where any interaction with the deceased family would take place.
